The eyes of the world will be on Capri for the G7 Foreign Ministers summit, with the Foreign Ministers of the world’s seven largest democracies, along with several guest delegations, including one from Ukraine, gathering on the island from April 17 to 19. This marks the first of two Foreign Ministers’ meetings hosted by Italy in 2024.
The event will be hosted by the Vice President of the Council and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Antonio Tajani.
As Tajani stated, the goal of the summit is to strengthen the G7’s role as the main forum for consultation among the world’s major liberal democracies and as a factor of stability in the face of global crises. The meeting’s agenda will focus on key international issues, beginning with the situation in the Middle East. Among the topics discussed will be the severe humanitarian crisis and the resumption of a meaningful and impactful political process for the “two peoples, two states” solution. More generally, discussions will aim to promote dialogue on how to build a credible political horizon for the region, ensuring peace and security.
G7 Foreign Ministers Summit in Capri
The concerning situation in the Red Sea will also be addressed during the summit. A particular focus will be placed on the security of navigation and the impacts on commercial shipping routes, especially towards the Mediterranean. The response to Russia’s aggression against Ukraine will remain at the core of the G7 agenda. The Italian presidency aims to reaffirm the G7’s unwavering support for Kyiv in all areas—military, political, and financial—while striving for a fair and lasting peace. Stability in the Indo-Pacific, a region crucial for global political balance and trade, will also be discussed.
Additionally, the Italian presidency intends to renew cooperation with Africa in a spirit of mutual respect. In this context of equal partnership with Africa, the Ministers will address the link between development and migration, aiming to tackle the root causes of irregular migration by promoting sustainable growth through new investments, job creation, education, and energy transition. Global challenges such as food security, energy security, climate change, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence will also be on the table. AI offers humanity vast opportunities but also presents significant risks.

The preliminary program includes the arrival of the G7 delegations in the afternoon of April 17, with a ceremonial photo at the Certosa followed by a group photo of the ministers at the Augustus Gardens.
On April 18, two sessions will take place at the Grand Hotel Quisisana, one in the morning and another in the afternoon, with the arrival of guest delegations from outreach countries and a group photo.
The final meeting will take place on April 19 at the Grand Hotel Quisisana, followed by a closing press conference by the Italian presidency at the multifunctional center in Via Sella Orta.
