Nature Walks

Arco Naturale

This jewel of karst origin is the surviving part of a large underwater cave… Over time the waves of the sea, the wind and the rains widened the opening of this magnificent rocky spur which today reaches 12 meters in width and 20 in height. From this perspective, immersed in panic silence, you can enjoy one of the most evocative views of the island, extending from Punta Campanella to the Amalfi coast.

Returning from the Natural Arch, going down a path that starts at the Le Grottelle restaurant, you arrive at the Grotta di Matermania, a great natural cave,

a nymphaeum in the imperial era and place of worship of the Goddess Mitra in the second century AD Beyond the cave, along the path close to the sea, you can also admire Villa Malaparte (or “House like me”) built on Punta Massullo. The Pompeian red gash of this villa is a typical example of Italian rationalist architecture and was the work of Curzio Malaparte himself, who said: “The day I started building a house I didn’t think I would draw a portrait of myself”.

It is a perfect fit between nature and architecture, the setting of director Jean Luc Godard in his film Contempt which also sees a very young Brigitte Bardot on stage.

Then continue up to Belvedere Tragara and along the homonymous street, between villas, hotels and flower gardens, you can reach the center in a few minutes (duration 1 hour and 30 minutes).
