Villa Malaparte: History and Facts about Capri’s Most Iconic Villa

Villa Malaparte, built between 1938 and 1942 on the Punta Massullo promontory, is one of Capri’s most recognizable architectural landmarks. Commissioned by Curzio Malaparte and traditionally associated with architect Adalberto Libera, it is distinguished by its red structure built directly onto the rock, its large trapezoidal staircase, and the curved white wall of its terrace. The villa also became famous through Jean-Luc Godard’s 1963 film Contempt. Today, it is privately owned and is considered one of the most important examples of 20th-century Italian architecture.

Wedding scenes: Blake Lively “bride” on set in Capri

Among the scenes shot are those of the wedding starring the two actors. The shooting sees locations at the Punta Carena lighthouse in Anacapri, the grand hotel Quisisana, the Piazzetta of Capri and other areas of the island.

The film, produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Lionsgate, is the sequel to 2018’s “A simple favor” directed by Paul Feig. The same director is also directing this film starring Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick. The film will be available on Prime Video in over 240 countries and territories around the world. The cast includes returns by Henry Golding, Andrew Rannells, Bashir Salahuddin, Joshua Satine, Ian Ho and Kelly McCormack, as well as Michele Morrone and Elena Sofia Ricci.

Ciak turns in the Piazzetta, at the tables of the bars and in the shadow of the famous bell tower, where in recent days were raised huge panels to protect from the sun and to keep away the curious, as well as in many other locations on the island. Among the workers have been engaged dozens and dozens of figurations and local extras.
